23 BBS- Financial Economics students, from the Strathmore Institute of Mathematical Sciences (SIMS) arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport- jittery, anxious but most of all excited, as they embarked on their annual academic trip journey to Pamplona, Spain.
The students were armed with their fourth year final year abstracts, which they were to present at the University of Navarra- in Spain, during their two weeks experience.
The trip consisted of rigorous training in relevant data analysis softwares, such as MATLAB, STATA and GRETL. Moreover, a few published researchers presented their papers to the students allowing for a discussion on modern research problems and their solutions.
Further, the research-based trip enlightened the students on how various concepts in different fields interact with economics. A memorable lecture was one by Prof. Dr. Joseph Gomes, who discussed how GIS, a mapping software, can be used in presenting economic variables such as the levels of development in Africa.
The excited students shared a few excerpts from their experience;
