SFAE to partner with Busara Centre for Behavioral Economics

Dr. John Olukuru, Jeremy Shapiro, Ms. Mercy Muttai and Mrs. Mercy Kano

The Dean School of Finance and Applied Economics (SFAE) Dr. John Olukuru hosted Busara’s Center for Behavioral Economics president, Jeremy Shapiro for discussions on possible partnership between the university and the company. The meeting was also attended by lecturers from SFAE faculty; Ms. Muthoni Ng’ang’a and Mrs. Mercy Kano, a SFAE third year student, Mercy Muttai and also the Crispin Bokea.

The partnership will connect SFAE with professors and researchers from prominent universities so as to provide an avenue of sharing information. This will enable them to carry out more research that can be applied in the real world. They aim to provide a link between private sector and public sector through the application of the research being carried out in the Centre.

The team shared insights on how to close the gaps in the Kenyan market using the behavioral approach. Jeremy stated that Busara’s aim is to “sharpens the axe”, meaning that they would ensure efficiency in the public sector as well as the private sector.

The partnership will provide an avenue for students to gather data for their research and also to provide internship opportunities. This is timely because the BBS students in third year are currently looking for internship opportunities.

The Busara Center for Behavioral Economics is a non-profit research organization founded in 2012 by Professor Johannes Haushofer (Princeton University).
