Areas of Expertise
Mary Wanza – Kipkemoi
Hello. I am currently a lecturer at the School of Finance and Applied Economics. I will be taking a break from April 2014 to pursue my PhD in the area of Network theory. I would like to explore this in the area of financial systems. I am fascinated by how all systems – manmade or by nature are interconnected to form an innovation or failure culture. The interest sparked after reading the Pulitzer award winning book – Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond followed by the Black Swan by Nassim Taleb. I am now reading Blink and the tipping point by Malcolm Gladwell. I hold an MSc in Mathematical Finance from University of Manchester, UK (2009) and a BSC in Actuarial Science from the University of Nairobi (2005)

Prior to joining Strathmore University I was a senior associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Kenya undertaking statutory financial audits  Professionally, I am a member of the ACCA and ISACA (CISA) as well as a student member of IFoA (Institute and Faculty of Actuaries)

I undertake financial audits for Small and Medium sized organizations seeking to add value to the organization beyond meeting annual statutory reporting deadlines through offering suggestions on how to improve their accounting and book keeping capacity as well as comply and/or leverage on taxation rules in Kenya. Through this engagement, I meet interesting people implementing great ideas in various setups - for profit, not for profit and social enterprises.

At Strathmore I have deliver lectures on the following course units: Financial Mathematics, Computer concepts and Programming with applications to mathematics and finance (advanced excel, C++, Eviews and Gretl) , Communication for Actuaries and Basic accounting courses
